Development reference: Create wash trials, approve shade range, account for shrinkage, test trims and keep bulk wash consistent.
Before you sample
Turn a wash reference into an approval standard
A vintage or washed look is a combination of shade, contrast, abrasion placement and hand feel. A reference photo alone cannot define all four or the measurements after processing.
Shade and contrast
What to decide
Separate the base shade from local highlights and wear effects. Camera exposure and screens can distort color, so use a physical reference for final approval when possible.
How to approve it
Approve a sample and shade range under agreed viewing conditions, with dated references.
Abrasion and distress placement
What to decide
Map whiskers, fades and damaged areas to garment landmarks. Placement needs review across sizes; copying one distance everywhere may shift the effect away from the intended anatomy.
How to approve it
Review effect location and fabric integrity on the finished sample, including stress areas.
Dimensional change and twist
What to decide
Wet processing can alter length, width and leg balance. Define the finished measurement target and care procedure before deciding any pattern allowance.
How to approve it
Compare before-and-after measurements on the same sample and inspect seam alignment.

Questions before sampling and ordering
Can a factory match a denim wash exactly from a photo?
A photo can start development, but it does not reliably communicate color, hand feel or fabric behavior. Use the intended fabric for a trial and agree the physical sample and acceptable range before bulk.
What is a shade band in denim production?
It is an agreed reference range for acceptable shade variation around the approved appearance. Define the viewing conditions and how garments outside the range or different shade groups will be handled during inspection and packing.
Can the same wash process be moved to another denim fabric?
Not without a new trial. Fiber blend, yarn, dye and construction can change the response to processing. Recheck appearance, strength where relevant and measurements on the replacement fabric.
What are your MOQ, sample time and bulk lead time?
MOQ is 100 pcs. Samples take 7 days. Bulk production lead time depends on order quantity.
Many denim ranges use three washes: a dark rinse, a mid vintage blue and a light or bleached wash. Approve them together so the range looks deliberate, and keep shade bands for each.
Wash naming
Wash names vary between suppliers. Use reference photos and keep your own names for each approved wash so reorders refer to the right shade.
